Course Title: What's New: Updates to the OSHA Hazard Communication Standard

Course Type: Webinars

Objective: This webinar summarizes the proposed updates to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) hazard communication (HAZCOM) standard, 29 CFR 1910.1200. The proposed update aligns the HAZCOM standard (HCS) with Revision 7 of the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS). This webinar discusses each proposed change and identifies actions to maintain workplace HAZCOM compliance.

Pre-Requisites: This introductory-level webinar is beneficial to personnel wanting to learn more about proposed rulemaking updates to the OSHA HCS. Personnel gaining the most benefit from this presentation may include: safety and occupational health (SOH) professionals; managers and supervisors; personnel responsible for maintaining authorized use lists and chemical inventories; personnel responsible for issuing hazardous materials; and Unit Safety Officers such as Collateral Duty Safety Officers (CDSOs) and Additional Duty Safety Officers (ADSOs).

Paul has been with the SMCX for over 10 years and supports both Army and Navy sites. He is a certified master trainer and holds a master’s degree in leadership from Columbia Southern University.

Chris Chaffin, CSP, DoD SMCX Senior Occupational Safety and Health Professional

Chris has worked with the SMCX for 15 years after retiring from Civil Service as a career safety professional and serving as an Aviation Ordnance/Missile Technician in the USMC. He has conducted a number of investigations involving injuries and fatalities where hazard communication was a contributing factor. He now evaluates the effectiveness of hazard communication programs during site SMS reviews.

Lori Schroth, D.B.A., CSP, CIT, DoD SMCX Senior Safety & Environmental Professional

Lori has worked with the SMCX for more than 12 years and previously as a Safety & Environmental Specialist in the manufacturing industry. During her career, she experienced several preventable incidents due to improper hazard communication and wants to ensure workers are educated on the chemicals they work with and how to protect themselves. Lori has experience with writing and implementing hazard communication programs and delivering training on hazard communication concepts.
